What a Powerful Lunar Eclipse and Full Moon!

One of the first things people learn about me is that I LOVE crystals! Everything about them intrigues and fascinates me: their beauty, the healing energy they possess, the power that resides in them, the comfort they can bring to a tense situation, and the ways they actually are able to support someone I love and care about.

I place so much importance on crystals and their properties that I use them as tools in my daily self-care practice; with private clients in Reiki sessions; and especially in my work designing jewelry that imparts meaning, purpose, spirituality for my company, Rei of Light Jewelry Designs.

Making sure to take care of my crystals by cleansing them is a personal ritual and a simple one I can teach you. If you're wondering why do I need to cleanse my crystals, the answer is multi-faceted. Here are the reasons I choose to cleanse them:

1) To release and let go of any energies that have been attached to the stones from working with other people.

2) To enable them to get re-energized and recharged.

3) To rid them of any dust or impurities they may have collected over time.

The most powerful time to cleanse and re-energize your crystals is during a full moon. Don't worry if you can't put them out on the exact day of the full moon or if you forget that day. The lunar energy is at its strongest for three days--the day before, the actual day of the full moon, and the day after. You can put them out any of those three days.
The reason a full moon is so powerful is because it's a time to release and let go of anything that no longer serves you. Since my crystals all serve my best and highest and good, you may be wondering why I would want to “release" them. What I really want to do is re-energize them while energetically cleansing them so they continue working for me and for others. You could call it a monthly tune-up. When we work with crystals they can absorb some of the negative energy, and that changes the vibrational frequency.

How do you cleanse crystals?

Before setting your crystals out under the full moon, gently wash them in a little purified water or in the ocean. I take all my crystals--I have a lot of them--and I place them in a big glass bowls after I have rinsed them. Then I go outside to look for the moon, placing the bowl in a space that feels like the moonlight is shining above. I leave them out overnight and return them back to where they go in the morning. I can honestly say that I feel the shift in the energy in the crystals each time I complete this process. (It really doesn’t matter if you can see the moon or not, the energy is still there. Clouds and rain do not affect the moon's energy."

Do I need to put all of my crystals out at every full moon?

No, you do not. Follow your intuition on this one. I personally place out the crystals I work with the most or the crystals that I wear the most. Occasionally I won’t put out crystals that I have not touched or worked with in a while when the moon is full. There is no absolute requirement in either timing or method in this process for it to work. However, if you have a few crystals you work with or wear on a regular basis, those are the ones you would want to consider cleansing.

Another cleansing option is to sage your crystals. Sage is another wonderful energy cleanser. It is a form of incense, and you can purchase it at local stores like Whole Foods in their health and wellness section. Crystal and bead shops sometimes carry sage as well. Once you light the sage, you simply run your crystals through the smoke or waft the smoke over your crystals. This method also cleanses any of the areas around your house. (Sage is a very strong smell, so just keep that in mind if you choose this method.)

This is also the perfect time to think about anything in your own personal life that you would like to release and let go--anything that no longer serves you.
